Pizza Perfume

To have a perfume which smells like your favourite dish would sound incredulous to many but there are some brands with a brave sense of marketing, bordering on the quirky and the adventurous. Pizza Hut’s Canadian wing  perfectly fits the bill when it comes to some offbeat thinking which is the inspiration of today’s post.

In 2012, Pizza Hut Canada, in an attempt to engage with its customers on , put up a question,  “Do you love the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened ? We thought so. If that smell was a perfume, what would it be called ?“.Pizza Hut Canada was flooded with various responses from its customers. They had managed to attract the attention of its hundreds of consumers by this one unusual question and raised their interest in the Pizza brand. 

Eau de Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut did not stop at this and though many felt that the question asked was more of a joke than anything serious, after a period of two months, Pizza Hut announced the Pizza Perfume, which smelt like freshly baked pizza dough and pizza seasonings. The perfume was named Eau de Pizza Hut and the attractively bottled and packaged perfume was sent to the first 100 respondents of their question. 

As it turned out, this whacky idea generated a spontaneous and a sudden blaze of publicity and glare which not only helped Pizza Hut Canada amass a lot of  goodwill amongst its customers but also helped strengthen their bond with them. The followers on the face book page of Pizza Hut Canada multiplied drastically and crossed the 100k mark, which was a coveted milestone in those times.

Thinking offbeat is impactful and to have a long standing relationship with your customer it is imperative to create ripples off and on through some genuinely weird ideas like some good smelling, hot Pizza Perfumes.
