Villa Seal Champions League Spot
Aston Villa produced an unwavering performance at Villa Park against Liverpool last night. Unai Emery’s side thus overtook the Reds in the EPL table and secured their Champions League spot for the next season.
Liverpool Outplayed
Liverpool, with a lack of energy and assertive play, were completely outplayed by Villa in a demoralising 2-4 loss to the Villans. For the Reds, their campaign to defend their title just tapered away after the first five games and then never gained momentum.
Incredible Goals From Aston Villans
The 4 goals Villa scored were of the highest quality and spoke volumes about the Villans. Morgan Rogers’ goal was a brilliant right-footed curler that curled into the net. Ollie Watkins then scored twice. A composed finish from his right foot in open play, and then capitalising on a rebound.
McGinn scores the Best of the Lot
Captain John McGinn scored the best of the lot, with an exceptional placement. There wasn’t much power in it, just pure, sublime and skilful football.
Virgil Gets A Couple of Consolations
Virgil van Dijk had two headers to secure some consolation for Liverpool in an otherwise listless performance from the erstwhile EPL Champions. The defence of their title had long been extinguished.
Liverpool Did Not Rise To The Occasion…
As much as the Villans were impressive, Liverpool were disappointing. Barring Ngumoha, who did show some spark off and on, the rest of the players did not have much to offer. The defence for Liverpool has let down the team much too often, and a change looks imminent. The midfield, which has MacAllister ( who was brilliant last season), has been unable to inspire, and the forwards, too, have not lived up to the hype and expectations.
… But Can Still Make It To Champions League
Liverpool can still make it to the Champions League, but will be required to beat a formidable Brentford at Liverpool on the 24th of May.
Arne Slot’s Future Looks In Jeopardy
Arne Slot will be under massive pressure to deliver against Brentford, and even if Liverpool win and qualify for the Champions League, Slot’s position as Liverpool’s Manager looks to be in serious jeopardy.
Unai Emery Is Having A Good Time
Unai Emery would be feeling much relieved. The Villans have recovered from a bit of a slump and are looking good again. For me, they are the favourites to win the Europa League final against Freiburg on the 20th of May.
