Mulder – A Triple Centurion
Wiaan Mulder, the South African all-rounder and captain of South Africa in the Proteas’ 2nd Test versus Zimbabwe at Bulawayo, captured headlines across the World. Mulder scored a mammoth, unbeaten 369 runs of 334 balls, including a staggering 49 fours and 4 sixes.
Zimbabwe Bowling Reduced to Pulp
The Zimbabwean bowlers were reduced to pulp by Mulder’s triple hundred as South Africa built a mountain of runs and declared at 626/5 at Lunch on Day 2. David Bedingham and Lhuan-dre Pretorius also made useful contributions of 82 and 78, respectively.
Mulder’s Declaration Surprising…
It was a terrific performance from Mulder, but what surprised me most was his declaration at Lunch. He was only 31 runs short of 400 and was within striking distance of annihilating Brian Lara’s long-standing record.
… But A Great Tribute To Brian Lara
The gesture from Wiaan Mulder was terrific. He did not go for Lara’s record as a mark of respect for the Great West Indian. He said that Lara deserved the record like no other and even if he ever got a chance again to come close to Lara’s record, he would do the same.
Very Impressive From Mulder Indeed
It was indeed a great tribute to Lara from Mulder and a fine act of humility and gratitude to the legend. People may have differing opinions on Mulder’s decision, but I was extremely impressed by it. What a player, what a sportsman.
South Africa Runaway Winners with an Innings and 236 runs
Zimbabwe were skittled out for 170 in the first innings and made to follow on by the Proteas. And as I write, the South Africans have just bowled out Zimbabwe for 220 in the second essay and have ensured a resounding win by an innings and 236 runs, inside 3 days.
