Patrick Vieira At The Helm of Senegal
Patrick Vieira has officially been appointed as the new head coach of the Senegal national football team. The former Arsenal legend and 1998 FIFA World Cup winner with France was formally announced on August 18, 2026, marking his first managerial role in international football.
Senegal’s Disappointing World Cup
Born in Dakar, Vieira takes charge of the Lions of Teranga following the departure of Pape Thiaw, who left the position after Senegal disappointed at the 2026 World Cup and eventually exited in the Round of 32. A lot was expected from the African football powerhouse, but the Lions failed to make an impression in North America.
Vieira’s First Foray In Managing A National Side
For Patrick Vieira, this will be his first foray into a Managerial role with a National Team, after successful stints with New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg. His discipline, tactical acumen and vision have been a hallmark of his Managerial style.
