Alcaraz Powers Past Norrie
Carlos Alcaraz, the defending Champion and World No. 2, set aside the challenge from Brit Cameron Norrie to storm into the semi-finals at Wimbledon. It was sheer dominance from Alcaraz as Norrie felt woefully short of ideas and was blown away on Centre Court. The final score line read 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in favour of the Spaniard.
Brilliant Tennis From Alcaraz As A Tired Norrie Gives Way
Heavy, pounding serves, the tightest of angles, blazing forehands, delectable drop shots, amazing court coverage, and unflinching temperament have been the hallmark of Alcaraz’s tennis. Norrie was totally at sea. His 5-set marathon against Chilean Jarry had taken a lot out of him, and probably he did not have much in the tank to pose any challenge to Alcaraz.
Sinner & Alcaraz Are Re-Defining Tennis
The new generation of players, spearheaded by Sinner and Alcaraz, is redefining tennis. The margin of error is shrinking, the power is being cranked up, physical fitness is at unseen levels, and tactical acumen is rising along with immense doggedness and mental strength.
No One’s Close To The Top 3
No wonder, Sinner and Alcaraz, closely followed by Novak Djokovic, have created a chasm between them and the rest of the tennis world. Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, and, to an extent, Jack Draper are the only ones I find getting closer to the top 3.
Taylor Fritz Gets Past Khachanov
Taylor Fritz fought hard to beat Karen Khachanov in a 4-set thriller. Riding on his brilliant serve and all-around play, the much-improved Fritz got past a dangerous Khachanov, who didn’t play badly either.
Alcaraz vs Fritz: A Tough Duel On The Cards
Alcaraz vs Fritz in the semi-final would be a classic showdown. With Fritz in good form and Alcaraz peaking at the right time, a tough duel is on the cards. Though Alcaraz will have an edge, Fritz would not be easy to dismantle. A terrific battle awaits.
