RCB Eventually Win At Home
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru eventually won their first game of the season at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, their home ground. Rajasthan Royals had the match in their grasp, but a gentleman named Josh Hazlewood upset RR’s applecart right at the finish line, handing RCB a crucial victory.
Mature Batting From RCB As Kohli Shines
RCB batted first with lots of maturity interspersed with doses of aggression and even patience to put up a fighting score. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli gave a brisk start, and then Devdutt Padikkal joined Kohli for an exhibition of power hitting and finesse. Virat played brilliant strokes ( A flick off his pads in the power play was sheer delight. It was a mere caress, and the ball sped away to the fence. It was pure magic from the legend).
RCB Put Up a Fighting Score
Padikkal and Kohli brought up their half centuries and though both of them perished at the wrong time, Tim David and Jitesh Sharma pushed the RCB score to a decent 205 at the end of 20 overs.
RR Make A Promising Start But Lose Jaiswal
RR batters came out with a flourish, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, in particular, playing a blinder. He missed his half-century by a whisker, which eventually proved to be critical to the game’s outcome.
It was up to Dhruv
Nitish Rana and Riyan Parag both played a good hand and were always ahead of the required run rate. But the RCB bowlers kept to their task. They took wickets and curtailed the flow of runs. Eventually, it was left for Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey to win it for RR.
Bhuvi Goes For 22
The equation read 40 runs of 18 balls, which by today’s standards was very much achievable. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar bowled the 18th over and was hit for 22 runs. The match had completely turned towards RR, and it was their match to lose. RCB were hanging by a thread.
Sensational Josh Hazlewood Wins It For RCB
Josh Hazlewood came on to bowl the penultimate over ( a great decision taken by RCB) with RR requiring just 18 of 12 balls. The Australian produced a spectacular over, taking 2 wickets and conceding just 1 run. Dhruv Jurel perished, and with him the hopes of RR, too. Hazlewood had changed the course of the game for good. RCB had their nose in front.
RR Falter Again
With 17 required of the last 6 balls, it was not going to be easy. RR lost two more wickets and added just 6 runs to lose by 11. RCB pulled off a great escape as RR faltered in the end and capitulated.
RCB Move To 3rd On The IPL Leaderboard
Josh Hazlewood, for his majestic 19th over, was awarded the POTM. RCB moved to 3rd on the IPL leaderboard while RR fell to 8th after another demoralizing loss.
