Manchester City And Tough Times
Manchester City had problems galore this season. It all began with an injury to Rodri and then a string of losses. Erling Haaland’s form momentarily disappeared, and no one else stepped up. The goals dried down, the defence struggled, and eventually the crown left the proud Champions.
The Fortunes Are Slowly Changing
The weather is changing, and so are the fortunes of Manchester City. The beleaguered side has not lost for 5 consecutive matches, including 4 wins. With 66 goals, they are the second highest goal scorers, only behind the expected Champions to be, Liverpool. The addition of Omar Marmoush has infused new life into City, and though Erling Haaland has been absent due to injury, players have stepped up. Despite all the issues, City are still 3rd, which is no small achievement.
Aston Villa Have Been In Good Form
Aston Villa, too, have been in great form, and the tie with City was expected to be an interesting one.
Bernardo Silver Scores For City Early
At the Etihad, City took an early lead. Omar Marmoush made a fine move from the left, dribbling past a defender and then shot a cross to the arriving Bernardo Silva in the centre. The Portuguese buried the ball in Villa’s net with a fine finish, just 7 minutes into the game.
Rashford Squares It For Villa
Villa responded with Marcus Rashford moving well upfront, and in the 18th minute, Villa were awarded a debatable penalty. Rashford made no mistake in leveling the match. The penalty did not go down well with Pep Guardiola, who voiced his dislike vociferously, getting yellow carded in the process.
Magnificent Nunes Wins It For Manchester City
The match went on like a cat and mouse cagey affair till Matheus Nunes broke the deadlock 4 minutes into stoppage time. Doku, the strongly built Belgian, made a superb move from the left with his great pace and passed on to Nunes to the right, who struck magnificently from the acutest of angles to score for City. It was a terrific strike which left the stadium in raptures and Pep Guardiola ecstatic in his celebrations. City had pulled off an important win, which had driven them closer to Champions League Qualification.
A Boost For City Before FA Cup Semis This Sunday
The win would serve as a big boost for Manchester City for Sunday’s FA Cup Semi-Final against Nottingham Forest.
