Ruud Van Nistlerooy was looking forward to a better performance from Leicester after a 0-4 drubbing at the hands of Brentford in the last match, while West Ham were focussing on consolidating their position in the League table. The Hammers had got the better of Arsenal and were confident of an encore against the Foxes at the London Stadium.
The match played out last night unfortunately was a sparkless duel. West Ham scored their first goal through Tomas Soucek’s goal mouth tap in off the rebound of a fine Kudus strike and then a Jannik Vestergaard own goal gave the Hammers an invincible 2-0 lead. The match just meandered to the end.
Leicester were as lackluster as one could get. Barring some energy displayed in the last 10 minutes, the Foxes were uncharacteristically docile and sluggish. The forward line was pathetic and so was the defence. No wonder in 27 matches Leicester have scored just 25 goals and conceded a mammoth 61. This goes to show how much deep Leicester have fallen. In 19th position on the leaderboard and relegation looming large, the Foxes are in deep trouble. Van Nistlerooy’s position looks in great jeopardy too, with 11 losses in their last 12 games in the EPL.
West Ham with 6 points from their last two encounters including the victory against Leicester, are in 15th position and well clear of relegation.
Time is running out for the Foxes for sure.
