Buttler Steps Down As England Lose
It was a gloomy end to England’s Champions Trophy campaign. The once World Champions lost all their group games and made a timid exit, taking in its wake, Jos Buttler’s captaincy, who stepped down after a terrible Asian outing.
Proteas Win On A Canter
After losing to Australia and Afghanistan, England were blown away by a belligerent South African side, with the Proteas winning on a canter by 7 wickets to spare. The smallish target of 180 was achieved with 20.5 overs to spare. It was a telling blow indeed, much difficult for Buttler to bear.
Brilliant Marco Jansen
The England innings capitulated for just 179 runs rocked by a brilliant Marco Jansen spell early on. Jansen scalped 3 quick wickets pushing the English on the backfoot from which they never recovered. Joe Root and Captain Buttler did try to stabilise the innings, but their departure and poor performances from Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone, led to England setting up a paltry 180 runs target.
Poor Batting & Bowling From England
Jos Buttler one of the legends in limited overs cricket scoring 21 of 43 balls, is an indication of the batting woes, the English Team is going through. Barring Ben Duckett and Joe Root none of the English batters made any meaningful contribution to their side. Phil Salt played like a no brainer gifting his wicket all the time. Jamie Smith failed completely at no. 3 and Brook and Livingstone were pathetic to say the least. The Bowling too lacked bite apart from Jofra Archer in patches and the ever reliant Adil Rashid.
Fast Improving South Africans
South Africa on the other hand were clinical with their performance. They bowled well and batted with great maturity when Jofra Archer struck with 2 quick wickets early on. Van der Dussen and Heinrich Klassen stitched in a 127 run partnership to make easy meet of the target. They completely outplayed England. The fast improving Proteas in all formats is indeed good for Cricket. The table toppers will now play the loser of the India-New Zealand clash today.
Buttler & IPL
The burden of captaincy was weighing heavy on Buttler. With the burden gone now, we can expect the Buttler we know. The IPL is just around the corner.
