Australia Register A Thumping Victory Over Sri Lanka At Galle

A Big Big Victory For Australia

Australia beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 242 runs in the 1st Test Match at Galle, and recorded  one of their biggest victories in the subcontinent.

Kangaroos Outplay Lanka

Sri Lanka who had been performing well in Tests and were riding an ever improving curve were no match for the Aussies. The visiting Kangaroos completely outplayed the hosts in all departments.

Aussie Batters Grind Lanka Bowlers

First Australia racked up a massive 654 runs on the back of some scintillating batting on a slow turning track. Usman Khawaja was the backbone of a run avalanche with a brilliant double century and meaty  contributions from Steve Smith and debutant Josh Inglis who recorded centuries too. The Sri Lankan bowling attack was subjected to such a grind that they were completely demoralised.

The Unrelenting Aussie Bowling Quartet

The batting, too cracked under the huge pile of runs for Sri Lanka. Only Dinesh Chandimal played a decent hand while the rest of the batters did not show the resilience and application to thwart the unrelenting quartet of Starc, Lyon, Kuhnemann and Murphy.

Sri Lanka Succumb Eventually

In the first innings Sri Lanka were bundled out for 165 and in the second foray, while following on, they succumbed for 247, handing Australia a famous victory.

The Spin Test Passed by Australia

The Aussies passed the spin test with aplomb and in fact gave the hosts a taste of their own medicine.

Brilliant Usman Khawaja Gets POTM Award

The batters however set up the game for Australia and Usman Khawaja for his massive innings of 232 runs of 352 balls, 16 fours and a solitary 6, was adjudged the Player of The Match.
