Brentford Sting A Toothless Tottenham

It has to be a test case for the Ivy League Institutions to decipher the failings of Tottenham Hotspur. Flush with internationally recognised talent, an Administration ready to give their all, and a Manager having a serious reputation at the helm, Tottenham Hotspur have just ceased to perform.

Last night’s drubbing at the hands of Brentford, the dangerous bees, at Gtech Community Stadium is the latest in Tottenham’s jittery existence. Taking nothing away from Brentford, who played brilliantly to say the least, Tottenham were rather poor and failed to gel as a unit during the match.

The Bees were sublime at times, organised to a T by Manager Keith Andrews. Mamadou Sangare, the Malian, was incredible and proved to be a worthy selection for Brentford. Michael Kayode, Kean Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt were superb and played with tremendous ball control, inch-perfect passes and great anticipation. Caolim Kelleher was good in goal too.

Tottenham were absolutely listless. The defence was rather non-existent, and going forward, the back line might be a major headache to resolve for Roberto De Zerbi. Richarlison, the Brazilian, just continues to disappoint each time I see him in Tottenham colours. Andy Robertson and Sandro Tonali, the two major transfers into Tottenham, just failed to impress. The 19-year-old Mikey Moore missed at least three good chances with only Kelleher to beat. Each time he kicked straight into Kelleher, who accepted with glee.

Brentford scored thrice with Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Kayode to complete a superb opening day win for the Bees, despite Thiago missing a penalty. The Spurs, in the end, were left licking their wounds.

The weary emotion on De Zerbi’s face said it all. A steep climb awaits the Spurs.
