There were times when Tottenham Hotspur, the London Club was a top-half regular, pressing the elites in Arsenal, Chelsea, the Manchester Twins and Liverpool in the English Premier League.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min used to power Tottenham then and, more often than not, combined to score a plethora of goals for the Spurs. But then times changed, and the Club went into an unabated downward spiral.
Kane and Son left for good. The side that remained was plagued with injuries, struggled for fitness and struggled to survive, flirting dangerously with relegation for two consecutive seasons.
Roberto de Zerbi, brought in by the Spurs’ Management in a desperate effort to save the Club last season, managed to help the Spurs scrape past the relegation zone and survive to fight another EPL season.
The new season, set to kick in a few days, may augur well for Tottenham under the watchful eye of De Zerbi, with a much fitter strike force in Richarlison and Solanke and a host of new signings and transfers to bolster the club.
High-profile arrivals like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Cole Ramsey, and Martin Dúbravka have brought in much-needed depth and proven experience to strengthen the Club’s defence and midfield.
I hope the Spurs spring from the pits this time and surprise the rest of their loyal fan club.
