A 7-Goal Thriller At Spurs’ Home
The consistently inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second defeat in 3 days. Losing to Bournemouth by a solitary goal on 6th December and then falling to Chelsea in a 7 goal thriller at home on Sunday night. The effect of these two losses has pushed Tottenham out of the top 10 on the English Premier League table, while Chelsea playing some cracking Football are sitting pretty in 2nd position and posing a serious challenge to table toppers Liverpool.
Tottenham Score Twice As Cucurella Slips
Tottenham were ahead in the game and struck twice early on. Dominic Solanke and Kulusevski scored inside the first 11 minutes, giving Spurs a terrific headstart. Cucurella, the Spanish Chelsea defender slipped twice to lose possession and on both occasions the Spurs scored. But the joy was short-lived as in the 17th minute Jadon Sancho produced a magnificent strike for Chelsea to reduce the deficit by half. And once the second half began it was all Chelsea.

Woeful Spurs
Tottenham succumbed to a relentless Chelsea. Jackson, Sancho, Enzo Fernandes and Cole Palmer were difficult to handle for Spurs and eventually Chelsea equalised in the 61st minute after some poor Defending from Tottenham gifted a penalty to Chelsea which Cole Palmer converted with ease. 12 minutes later a Cole Palmer shot deflected by defenders came in Enzo Fernandes’ way who unleashed a powerful left footer. The goalkeeper had no chance and Chelsea were ahead. In the 83rd minute Tottenham again conceded a penalty which Palmer converted with a cheeky shot that summed up the Spurs’ woes.
Chelsea Stamp Their Authority
After leading 2-0, Tottenham had conceded 4 goals. Chelsea had surged ahead in the game, held more than 60% possession and had bossed around the hapless hosts. Son Heung-min scored in stoppage time to reduce the deficit. Chelsea triumphed 4-3 and showed what a tough team they are to beat. They are scoring freely and putting the opposition under huge pressure. Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s Italian Manager was a happy man.

Tottenham Are Heading Southwards
Tottenham have themselves to blame. They are playing well only in patches and lack consistency. Ange Postecoglou will have a lot to answer if the campaign this season continues to head southwards. The defence needs to improve big time for Spurs and their forwards too need to be hit more than miss.
