India Win Toss
India won the toss and elected to bat in the Pink Ball Test vs Australia at the Adelaide Oval. After a comprehensive victory for India at Perth in the First Test, it was up to Australia to make the moves and so they did.
Starc Strikes First Ball
The first delivery by Mitch Starc swung from the leg stump line beating Jaiswal’s bat and struck the pads plumb in front. India had lost their centurian from the Perth Test on the first ball of the match.
Striving With Intent Starc Gets 6/48
Starc produced one of his finest spells of late. His speed hardly slipping below 140 kmph, Starc bowled with great intent and purpose, probing away without a respite. KL Rahul and a good looking Gill had a decent partnership but Starc accounted for Rahul and Virat and then came back to get the better of Ashwin, Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy to record brilliant figures of 6/48 in 14.1 overs. Scott Boland and Pat Cummins had a couple of wickets each.
India Out For 180
Rohit Sharma returning to the side and playing in the middle order after ages did not last long and was trapped in front by Boland. Nitish Reddy showed some fight in the end and is slowly turning into the find of this tour for Australia. India were bundled out for 180 and were required to produce an encore of Perth.
McSweeney Frustrates Indian Bowlers
The Indians bowled well and Bumrah had Khawaja caught in the slip cordon by Rohit but Nathan McSweeney had prepared himself for the grind and thwarted whatever was thrown at him by the Indian bowlers. His patient 38*of 97 balls in the company of Marnus Labuschagne ( 20* of 67 balls ) carried Australia to 86/1 at Stumps with only 94 runs behind and 9 wickets in hand.
Starc’s Day Out
It was a good day for Australia who were relentless with their bowling with Starc scalping 6 and then their batters buckled down against the Indian pace attack to push Australia ahead on Day 1. For India unfortunately it was an ordinary day with the bat.
Lots to play for on Day 2.
