Sarfaraz at the Receiving end of the NZ Debacle
The unprecedented debacle against New Zealand has left cricket fans, critics and commentators extremely upset. The consequence of which has been a tirade against a few players, virtually writing them off and closing down their careers. Sarfaraz Khan unfortunately is one of the players who has been at the receiving end of this tirade and though he has travelled with the team to Australia, it appears from what has been reported in the press and the media, that the burly right hander has fallen out of favour of the team think tank and would find himself hard pressed to get a game Down Under.

Sourav Ganguly in support of Sarfaraz Khan
I could just hear one voice in support of Sarfaraz and that belonged to Sourav Ganguly, who reiterated that it was too early to judge Sarfaraz and that he deserved more opportunities in his nascent career.
Sarfaraz’s Domestic Grind Should be Respected
Sarfaraz’s stellar 150 against New Zealand at Bangalore and his 3 fifties against England earlier need not be forgotten. He has made his contributions, but his failure in the last two matches against the Kiwis, has led the opinion makers to virtually rip off his domestic success and his ability to play for India. His average of over 65 with 16 centuries in domestic cricket is an indication of the hard grind Sarfaraz has gone through and should not be belittled after a couple of bad matches. The fact remains that Sarfaraz alone was not responsible for India’s defeat to New Zealand and hence he should not be made the scapegoat.

Team Management’s Support is Critical
The Australian tour would be Sarfaraz’s first overseas tour and unless and until he is given an opportunity to play in foreign conditions, how can we dismiss his ability and career altogether. This is exactly what Sourav Ganguly has said as well. I hope better sense prevails and the team management and selectors keep faith in Sarfaraz.
An Opportunity For Sarfaraz Khan is Round the Corner
With injury to Shubhman Gill and an expected absence of Rohit Sharma from the Perth Test, Sarfaraz might just make it to the playing XI. And then you never know.
