India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Match : Preview

The Relentless Kiwis Go One Up

The Kiwis are relentless opponents wherever they play and so they proved yet again, after beating India by 8 wickets in the 1st Test Match at Bengaluru. The result has pushed the series into an interesting phase. While India will come hard at the Black Caps with all guns blazing, the Kiwis instead would be looking to further consolidate their position in the 3 – match series.

India Ready To Claw Back

The Indian Team looks more than ready to claw back in Pune once the test starts tomorrow. They are dangerous when wounded and not so long ago had beaten England in 4 straight games after losing the first. The Kiwis surely would be aware of this.

Sarfaraz Might Stay

The Indian Team for the second test match looks settled barring a couple of decisions they have to make. As Shubhman Gill is expected to return, the management will have to choose between the in-form Sarfaraz who scored a majestic 150 at Bengaluru, and the out-of-form KL Rahul. In my opinion, I would be surprised if Sarfaraz gets the axe, considering the kind of form he is in. KL Rahul might have to wait for his turn, it seems.

Akash Deep Is Expected to Come In

In the bowling department too, India is expected to go with three spinners, the only contention being the position of Siraj. Though he has been a great trier and team man and a bowler with a big heart, his performances of late, particularly in home conditions have been below his standards. Akash Deep who is bowling beautifully with both pace and precision is most likely to replace Siraj. On Rishabh Pant and the slight injury he carried in the last match, the news is positive and the audacious left-handed batter and wicket-keeper would be taking the field.

No Selection Headaches for New Zealand

New Zealand on the other hand are not having much of a bother. A winning team is seldom changed. However, if the great Kane Williamson returns, Will Young will have to sit out. Not much headache for the Kiwis there.

Win Toss, Bat First, Pile On The Runs

The toss and the decision to bat by Rohit backfired at Bengaluru, but it is highly unlikely that the same scenario might repeat in Pune. For me, in a Test Match, it’s bat first on winning the toss. And if you are behind in the series then it’s even better to bat first, pile on the runs, and put the opposition under pressure.

No Way Out

It’s going to be a tough game, but India shall hang on for a victory. There is no other way out.
