The Domestic Grind

Years and years of unrelenting grind.  The persistence, the consistency, the unflinching focus, the never-say-die attitude, a monumental self-belief, a penchant for improvement, hope,a father’s unabated ambition, and the loud knocks on the doors of selection. Sarfaraz Khan had seen it all. Perfumed in the dust of domestic cricket, the burly right-hander it seems has eventually made it.

Sarfaraz Gets His Chance

After his very impressive debut in March this year, Sarfaraz was finding it difficult to get into the playing eleven after the return of the regulars, but a freak injury to Shubhman Gill led to his selection in the ongoing first test against New Zealand at Bengaluru.

An Impression That Had To Be Made

With a duck in the first innings, a result of an audacious stroke going awry, Sarfaraz had to make an impression in the second innings to secure his place in this series and also for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.

An Exceptional Knock

With India at 95-2 in the second innings and miles behind, Sarfaraz played an exceptional knock first in the company of Virat and then with Rishabh Pant and reached his maiden test hundred.

150 For Sarfaraz

Getting hundreds is not new to him, he had already 15 in domestic cricket. Known for his daddy hundreds, Sarfaraz notched up a 150 before a tired shot marked his way to the pavilion.

Full Range & Big Temperament

His innings were laced with brilliant late cuts ( to fast bowlers ), the cheeky but extremely well controlled ramp shots, the good old cover drives, delectable touches and above all a gritty, stable temperament. He changed gears at will to put the Kiwi bowlers under pressure and when required shut down shutters with an impregnable defence.

A Career-Defining Innings

Sarfaraz’s 150 today is a career-defining performance for the Mumbai run machine.

Truly well deserved.
