After his very impressive debut in March this year, Sarfaraz was finding it difficult to get into the playing eleven after the return of the regulars, but a freak injury to Shubhman Gill led to his selection in the ongoing first test against New Zealand at Bengaluru.
An Impression That Had To Be Made
With a duck in the first innings, a result of an audacious stroke going awry, Sarfaraz had to make an impression in the second innings to secure his place in this series and also for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.

With India at 95-2 in the second innings and miles behind, Sarfaraz played an exceptional knock first in the company of Virat and then with Rishabh Pant and reached his maiden test hundred.

Getting hundreds is not new to him, he had already 15 in domestic cricket. Known for his daddy hundreds, Sarfaraz notched up a 150 before a tired shot marked his way to the pavilion.

His innings were laced with brilliant late cuts ( to fast bowlers ), the cheeky but extremely well controlled ramp shots, the good old cover drives, delectable touches and above all a gritty, stable temperament. He changed gears at will to put the Kiwi bowlers under pressure and when required shut down shutters with an impregnable defence.

Sarfaraz’s 150 today is a career-defining performance for the Mumbai run machine.
