A pioneer of innovation, a beacon of technology, a boundless visionary, a leader unparalleled and a legend exceptional. I have tried my best to script a picture of Steve Jobs, one of the most revered entrepreneurs in the world, who not only gave us ‘Apple’, but inspired a generation purely on the basis of his business acumen and his love for technology and innovation. However, my post today is motivated by a moving piece I read on Linkedn written by Melike Dagcan on ‘The 6 Best Doctors‘.
Steve Jobs died aged 56. Unfortunately his millions could not give him an extended life. A deteriorating health tripped his wealth and as was destined Steve Jobs passed away leaving a great legacy behind. Steve Jobs has mentioned that as he lay sick in bed, waiting for the impending to happen, he wondered how insignificant his wealth was and that it only had limited scope, when it came down to his health.
As Steve Jobs reflected on his life, he suggested something very interesting and thought provoking. He mentioned about 6 best doctors who can help in leading a healthy and fulfilling life. I should make it clear, though, that I am in no way suggesting that we should not pursue wealth or status or should not be ambitious. We simply need to understand that these 6 doctors may still play a crucial role in the pursuit of our goals. So let’s have a look at them.
The 6 Best Doctors, as per Steve Jobs, are as follows:
1. Sunlight
The great visionary suggested the importance of sunlight. How important it is to spend time outdoors, closer to nature and rejoice in the abundance of it. It is said that being one with nature is supremely relaxing and a true remedy for several health issues plaguing people in today’s times.
2. Diet
Consuming healthy and eating light are two practices which have been strongly propagated in every culture or community. A healthy balanced and timely diet is a precursor for good health and longevity. The ones who do not respect the importance of diet and tend to abuse it, sooner than later develop health issues.
3. Exercise
I can say for sure that exercising is a tremendous stress buster and an antidote for both physical and mental problems. Furthermore, I am a strong proponent of sport. Children should take up a sport and pursue it passionately. At whatever stage of life, physical activism acts as a great health tonic and should be incorporated in our daily routine.
4. Rest
Our body needs adequate rest to repair itself from the stress we subject to it day in day out. Workaholism is neither a prerequisite for success nor an assured tool for generating wealth. We all need to take time off and rest our tired bodies to keep it prepared for the long haul.
5. Self Confidence
Self Confidence is the end result of a healthy body, an uncluttered mind, a well informed, well read intellect, and an unflinching resolve. We need to take time off to read so that we are abreast with the present and should be consistent with our daily affairs. Self Confidence is gold dust.
6. Friends
Good intentioned Friends and relatives are a boon. Not their number but their quality is of immense importance. It is in our best interest to keep them around. In trying times their support ensures emotional health and rejuvenates us in the pursuit of our goals. Just do not let them go. They enhance life spans.
Pursue success, pursue wealth, pursue fame with dogged determination and unwavering passion. However, do keep the 6 doctors around, so that a good balance can be maintained and we can enjoy life to its fullest.
Steve Jobs, a supreme thinker indeed.
