The Team Building Series
Ernest Hemingway once said ‘ The Best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them ‘. Trust is therefore a kind of initiative risk which runs in successful teams as a strong invisible glue, holding the team together and ensuring its progress on the task at hand. Though there are several other factors too, Trust is certainly one of the vital cogs in the wheel called ‘ Team ‘ and the first of my posts on the Teamwork series.
Trust – The Trusted Attribute
I have worked with Teams right through my career and the experience has been both enjoyable and enriching. Leading and managing Teams, trust was one attribute which I invested heavily in and it has to be said that on most occasions my reliance on Trust paid rich dividends. Trusting a team member’s abilities, strengths, commitment, self discipline, character and behaviour before receiving the same trust in return is critical and an integral part of a Team’s unwavering spirit.
Apple’s Mantra
The same has been explained in no uncertain terms by none other than Steve Jobs. He always laid tremendous stress on Trust amongst and within Teams which eventually became a Hallmark of massive success at Apple. As per him “ Teamwork is dependent on trusting the other folks to come through with their part without watching them all the time, but trusting them that they are going to come thru with their part, and that’s what we do really well “.
A Host of Trust Benefits
What does Trust bring about is very important to be understood. Its benefits are hugely telling. Trust creates camaraderie and gels the team together, creating an emotional bond. Trust facilitates psychological security and team members relish working in a safe environment. With trust, communication amongst team members is seamless and there is limited scope for miscommunication and misunderstandings. This leads to great Goodwill. The exchange of ideas is unhindered in a trusting environment leading to innovation and creativity. Trust eventually powers heightened productivity and exceptional results.
Trust undoubtedly is the ‘ Cog Vital ‘ and an absolute pre requisite for a Successful Team. The benefits are clear, but how to ensure Trust, is a challenge too. My next post shall decipher that too. Keep reading.

Very impressive 👏
Thank you so much
I truly agree with Riz Khan that trust plays a pivotal role in the team work of any task being pursued. The employee or the task giver has to have Trust in his team to boost their morale and give them the feeling that the project is their very own belonging…they have to use their abilities to the fullest and ensure that it reaches its goal.Another Trust within the team should be between the colleagues working together..They can make the most of themselves when they share each others views…capabilities and skills. Thus Trust is an important factor in any organisation.Lets wait to hear what more is in store from Riz…regarding how to ensure Trust being a challenge too.
