Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal reveals its story, main cast, and 2027 screening plans. Explore the new characters, production staff, and release updates.
The Code Geass franchise is expanding with Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal, a new anime project scheduled to begin special screenings in 2027. Sunrise revealed additional information on November 5, 2026, including the main characters, voice cast, production staff, and details about the anime’s setting.
Unlike earlier installments centred on Lelouch Lamperouge or conflicts involving the Holy Britannian Empire, the upcoming anime introduces a different historical setting. Its story follows a young slave named Aspal, whose encounter with a mysterious woman leads him into an unusual adventure. The project is part of the continuing expansion of Code Geass, which originally premiered in 2006 and became known for combining political conflicts, psychological strategy, and science-fiction action.

What Is Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal About?
The new anime takes place in the year 606 of the Divine Era, during a period when the Roman Empire is experiencing political unrest and continuous warfare. According to the official synopsis, citizens are suffering under Emperor Phokas, whose oppressive policies and conflicts with neighbouring nations have created difficult living conditions.
The central character, Aspal, is a young slave living in Neapolis, the empire’s capital. He has no memories of his past, leaving important questions about his identity and circumstances unanswered. His life changes after encountering Zoé, a mysterious woman who remains alive despite existing only as a severed head.
Their meeting becomes the starting point of the story, although the production committee has not revealed what circumstances brought Zoé into that condition or how her abilities work. The unusual premise introduces a different kind of mystery to the franchise. Previous Code Geass stories frequently explored power, loyalty, rebellion, and the consequences of attempting to change society through extraordinary abilities.
Whether Star Chaser Aspal will approach those themes in the same way remains unclear. However, the introduction of an oppressive empire and a protagonist with an uncertain past creates the foundation for a story involving political conflict and personal discovery. The official website has also introduced designs associated with the project’s mechanical elements, known as Agalmata. Their precise role in the narrative has not been fully explained.

It is also unclear whether the anime will receive international theatrical distribution or become available through a global streaming platform.
The announcement included a new main visual, giving fans their first detailed look at Aspal and Zoé. Although the project is officially moving forward, further information will be necessary to determine its episode count, complete story structure, and distribution plans.

Who Is Working on Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal?
Kazuya Nomura is directing the anime, while Mado Nozaki is handling series composition. The original story concept is credited to Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi, two creators closely associated with the franchise’s earlier development. Rolua is responsible for character designs, while Yoshi handles the Agalmata designs. Sunrise is producing the animation, maintaining its long-running relationship with Code Geass.
Ivan Shibata voices Aspal, while Hibiku Yamamura portrays Zoé. Both characters received additional information through the November announcement. With the franchise approaching another major anniversary, Star Chaser Aspal provides an opportunity to introduce a different setting and characters while retaining the Code Geass name. The biggest question is how the story will connect to the wider franchise. Will Aspal’s journey introduce an entirely new interpretation of the familiar themes or reveal unexpected connections to the world fans already know?
