What Is Witch on the Holy Night About?
The story takes place in Misaki during the late 1980s, following Aoko Aozaki, a young woman who becomes involved in the hidden world of magic. Aoko moves into an old mansion associated with rumours about witches, where she begins learning sorcery from Alice Kuonji.
Although Aoko is still inexperienced, Alice possesses considerable knowledge of magic and approaches the supernatural world with a very different personality. Their relationship becomes an important part of the story as Aoko attempts to understand her abilities and the responsibilities associated with them.
The narrative also introduces Soujuurou Shizuki, a young man who moves from a rural environment into the city. His unfamiliarity with modern urban life creates an unusual contrast with the supernatural secrets surrounding Aoko and Alice. As their lives become connected, the characters find themselves dealing with conflicts involving magic, personal relationships, and the consequences of entering a world that most people do not know exists. The film adapts the original visual novel, which was first released in Japan in April 2012. An official English-language version became available internationally in December 2022, allowing a wider audience to experience the story before its anime adaptation.
