Is Kaiju No. 8 ending? Discover when the manga finished, what is confirmed about the Final Chapter anime, its release date status, and Narumi’s Week at Work.
Kafka Hibino’s battle against the kaiju is approaching its final chapter, but that does not mean the franchise is disappearing anytime soon. After completing the manga in July 2025, Kaiju No. 8 is preparing to bring its remaining story to the screen through an officially announced anime project titled Kaiju No. 8 Final Chapter. The production team has also released a separate short anime featuring Gen Narumi, giving fans another reason to return to the world of the Japan Defense Force.
However, there is still an important distinction between the manga’s conclusion and the anime’s future. Here’s everything confirmed about the ending, the upcoming adaptation, and what fans can watch in the meantime.

Has the Kaiju No. 8 Manga Ended?
Yes, the Kaiju No. 8 manga officially ended on July 18, 2025. Creator Naoya Matsumoto concluded the series with Chapter 129 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform, bringing its five-year serialization to a close. The final chapter follows the consequences of the battle against the historic kaiju threat and offers a glimpse of what happens to Kafka and the other characters afterwards. Matsumoto also thanked readers for supporting the series throughout its run.
The manga’s 16th and final collected volume was released in Japan on September 4, 2025. Readers who prefer physical editions can explore the complete story without waiting for further manga chapters. Although the main series has finished, its conclusion does not automatically mean that every animated adaptation and related project has also ended.

What Is Kaiju No. 8 Final Chapter?
The anime’s concluding project was officially announced at Jump Festa 2026 on December 20, 2025. The production team released a special teaser trailer and promotional visual confirming that Kaiju No. 8 Final Chapter was in production. The announcement promised the final clash in Kafka’s story, signalling that the anime will continue beyond Season 2 to adapt the concluding part of the manga.
As of October 21, 2026, the Final Chapter does not have an officially announced release date. The production team has also not confirmed whether it will be released as a conventional television season, a film, or another format. For that reason, calling it Kaiju No. 8 Season 3 or describing it as a movie would be premature. The official title remains Kaiju No. 8 Final Chapter, and further announcements are needed to clarify its format and release schedule.

What Can Fans Expect From the Final Chapter?
The story follows Kafka Hibino, a kaiju-cleanup worker who gains the ability to transform into a powerful monster while pursuing his childhood dream of joining the Japan Defense Force. Across the first two seasons, Kafka struggles to control his unusual power while protecting his teammates from increasingly dangerous threats. His transformation also creates a difficult problem: the organisation he wants to serve must decide whether he is a defender of humanity or a danger that needs to be contained.
The concluding adaptation is expected to bring the central conflict toward its manga ending, including the final confrontation that determines the fate of Kafka and the people fighting alongside him. However, the production team has not published a detailed synopsis for the Final Chapter. Specific claims about its episode count, premiere date, or exact adaptation structure remain unconfirmed.

Is There Any New Kaiju No. 8 Anime to Watch?
Yes. Fans can watch Narumi’s Week at Work, an original short anime centred on Gen Narumi, captain of the Defense Force’s First Division. The four-episode project premiered in September 2026 and follows Narumi as he avoids paperwork, misses meetings, and spends time playing online games despite being regarded as Japan’s strongest anti-kaiju fighter.
The short series offers a lighter look at the character and his everyday responsibilities. It is separate from the Final Chapter and does not replace the main story’s concluding adaptation. With the manga complete, the main anime’s final project in production, and a new short series available, the franchise still has more content for fans to explore. Will Kaiju No. 8 Final Chapter deliver a satisfying animated conclusion to Kafka’s journey, and when will the production team finally reveal its release date?
