Discover Happy Kanako’s Killer Life anime’s April 2027 release, story, voice cast, Studio Drive production, and unusual assassin workplace comedy.

What if quitting a terrible office job led to a career as a professional assassin, complete with weekends off, employee benefits, and a generous salary? That is the bizarre premise behind Happy Kanako’s Killer Life, the upcoming anime adaptation of Toshiya Wakabayashi’s comedy manga. The television series was officially announced on October 16, 2026, with an April 2027 premiere window, a teaser trailer, and its first voice cast members.

Known in Japan as Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu, the series turns the familiar struggles of office life into an absurd comedy where killing people can be a better career choice than working for an exploitative company.

When Does Happy Kanako’s Killer Life Anime Release?

Happy Kanako’s Killer Life is scheduled to premiere in Japan in April 2027. However, the exact release date, broadcast schedule, and international streaming platforms have not yet been announced. TOHO Animation revealed the adaptation alongside a teaser visual and promotional video introducing the main character and her unusual career change.

The anime is based on Wakabayashi’s four-panel manga, which has attracted a substantial readership since its publication. What Is Happy Kanako’s Killer Life About?

The story follows Kanako Nishino, an ordinary office worker who reaches her breaking point after enduring the exhausting conditions of an exploitative company. Desperate to escape her miserable workplace, Kanako resigns and searches for a better job. Her next opportunity, however, is far from what most people would consider a normal career.

She joins an assassination company offering a starting salary of 600,000 yen, weekends and public holidays off, and full employee benefits. Surprisingly, the conditions are significantly better than those at her previous workplace. Kanako begins working as a professional killer, navigating dangerous assignments while struggling with the same anxieties and insecurities that affected her office life.

The comedy comes from this contrast. Kanako might have to eliminate a target, but she can still worry about making mistakes, dealing with colleagues, and adjusting to her new responsibilities. Rather than presenting assassination as a glamorous profession, the story uses it to satirise toxic workplace cultures, unreasonable bosses, and the everyday pressures employees experience.

Which Studio Is Animating Happy Kanako’s Killer Life?

Studio Drive is producing the anime, with Shinji Takamatsu directing and overseeing the scripts. Takamatsu is known for his work on comedy anime, including Gintama and Grand Blue Dreaming. Yoshiyuki Okubo is responsible for character designs and serves as chief animation director.

Takamatsu’s experience with exaggerated comedy should suit a story that combines workplace satire with absurdly dangerous situations. With its unusual premise and relatable frustrations, Happy Kanako’s Killer Life could offer something different from conventional assassin anime. Will Kanako finally find happiness in her new profession, or will her dream job turn out to be another source of chaos?
