Produced by Toei Animation and Tsuburaya Productions, the upcoming anime film is scheduled for release in 2027. A new teaser trailer released on October 18, 2026, introduced the voices of its two main characters and offered another look at the film’s futuristic world.

When Does Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara Release?
Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theatres in 2027. However, the exact release date and international distribution plans have not been announced. The film is part of the larger Kaiju Decode multimedia project, which previously explored its universe through a short CG anime, a virtual reality production, and a mixed-reality game.
The upcoming film expands that universe with an original story set in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Its latest promotional material highlights the contrast between its two protagonists and their very different relationships with kaiju.

What Is Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara About?
The story takes place in 2070, following a catastrophe known as the Skyfall Disaster. A supernova causes multiple space stations to crash onto Earth, bringing unknown bacteria from space. These bacteria begin invading or merging with earthly materials, producing new lifeforms known as Transcendent Organisms. The creatures transform parts of the planet into dangerous territories called the Zone. Humanity responds by establishing the City, an isolated society where people have been freed from traditional restrictions involving the body, brain, space, and time. However, this separation creates two very different ways of life.
Maru is a boy who lives peacefully in the City and hunts kaiju to earn a living. Coco, meanwhile, belongs to the Aidara Tribe and lives in the Zone, where dangerous creatures roam freely. Unlike those who view kaiju as enemies, Coco hopes humans can learn to live alongside them. When their paths cross, their opposing experiences become central to the story. Maru and Coco must navigate a world divided by fear and unfamiliarity as they search for a way for humans and kaiju to share the same future. The film’s central conflict is therefore about more than surviving monster attacks. It also explores how people respond to unfamiliar lifeforms and whether communities separated by different circumstances can overcome their differences.

Who Are the Main Characters?
- Maru: Voiced by Aya Yamane, Maru is a bright, mischievous, and kind-hearted boy who lives in the City. He hunts kaiju alongside an older companion known as Aniki. His encounter with Coco could challenge what he understands about the creatures he has been hunting.
- Coco: Voiced by Karin Takahashi, Coco is a member of the Aidara Tribe and a kaiju handler. She is intelligent, composed, and curious, with a strong desire to coexist with the creatures inhabiting the Zone.
- Giila: One of the kaiju featured in the promotional artwork, Giila, appears as Coco gently reaches toward it. The image reflects her willingness to approach these creatures with understanding rather than fear.

Which Studio Is Producing Kaiju Decode?
Toei Animation and Tsuburaya Productions are collaborating on the film, with animation production handled by ARECT and Toei Animation. S/N is directing, while Katsuie Shibata is writing the screenplay. Sei Nakashima designed Maru, Masatsugu Saito designed Coco, and Masayuki Goto of Tsuburaya Productions is responsible for the kaiju designs.
