Shahid Afridi was the original rockstar of power hitting. He burst onto the international scene with an innings that changed the game forever. On his ODI debut in 1996, a 16-year-old Afridi smashed the fastest century in ODI history off just 37 balls. This record stood for nearly 18 years. 

His approach was simple. See the ball and hit the ball. His strike rate of over 100 in ODIs was revolutionary for his time, and is third on the all-time list for most international sixes with 476. His 158-metre six against South Africa in 2013 is one of the longest in cricket history. Boom Boom was a true entertainer.

4. MS Dhoni – Captain Cool

MS Dhoni’s power hitting is defined not by brute force but by incredible wrist strength and composure under pressure. He is widely regarded as the greatest finisher the game has ever seen. His ability to finish games with a six is legendary. 

He is famous for hitting the winning runs with a maximum, most notably the World Cup winning six in 2011. Michael Hussey, his former IPL teammate, called him the greatest finisher of all time. He hit 359 sixes in his international career, with 229 of them coming in ODIs. He also has 350 sixes in T20 cricket. Dhoni was a finisher like no other.

5. Kieron Pollard – The T20 Giant

Kieron Pollard is a T20 powerhouse. His sheer physical strength and ability to clear the biggest boundaries make him one of the most feared hitters in the shortest format. He has hit over 1,056 sixes in T20 cricket, placing him at the top of the all-time list for the format. In July 2026, he became only the second player to reach 1,001 sixes in T20s. 

He recently overtook Chris Gayle to become the record run scorer in T20 cricket, amassing over 14,800 runs. His innings are characterised by brutal and clean striking, and his eight-six haul in a 2026 knock is a prime example of his raw power.
