Scott McTominay To Undergo Heart Surgery

Napoli and Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo a corrective heart procedure following the diagnosis of a mild, benign cardiac arrhythmia.

Symptoms Emerge During Napoli’s Loss To Como

“See you soon, Napoli. I won’t take long”, said McTominay, while sharing a picture from Napoli’s Training Ground. The 29-year-old former Manchester United player was substituted during Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A defeat to Como after experiencing symptoms.

McTominay to undergo PFA…

Following a medical evaluation, Napoli confirmed that McTominay will undergo Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA). This minimally invasive procedure uses ultrafast electrical pulses to target and eliminate malfunctioning cardiac cells causing irregular heart rhythms.

… Resulting In A Month Without Football in Serie A…

Though the condition is not life-threatening, with no impact on his long-term career, McTominay is surely going to miss a month or so of football, including some crucial Napoli matches, including Serie A clashes against Inter Milan, Bologna and Fiorentina.  The big one against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League will also go by without McTominay’s participation. The Scottish midfielder is expected to return on October 10 against Frosinone in Serie A.

The surgery will also affect Scott’s participation for his National Side. He is bound to miss Scotland’s matches against Slovenia, North Macedonia and Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League competition.
