A Fascinating Day 3
It was a fascinating Day 3 of the FIFA World Cup. It began with Qatar snatching a draw from the Swiss. Then Brazil & Morocco played out an incredible game to share the spoils and then Scotland recorded a tight victory over Haiti.
Favourites Switzerland Make Qatar scamper
The Swiss were the favourites without a doubt and looked like one as the Group B contest began in Santa Clara. The Swiss were making all the moves while Qatar were well onto the backfoot scampering to deny Switzerland. The pressure, however, yielded a penalty and Breel Embolo put Switzerland ahead in the 17th minute.
But A Brilliant Abunada Denies Them
The Swiss should have scored more for sure, but Mahmud Abunada, the 26-year-old goalkeeper was in sublime form, blocking everything that came his way. From the centre or from the flanks, the Al-Rayyan player was sensational and denied the Swiss with his brilliance.
Qatar Equalise & Snatch a Point In A Staggering Performance
The moment of truth arrived in stoppage time. Homam Ahmed sent a superb cross for a fast approaching Boualem Khoukhi. Miro Muheim under pressure from Khoukhi inadvertently headed the ball into his own goal sending the Gulf nation into jubilation. The Swiss were stunned. There was no time left in the game and the match ended in a 1-1 draw with Qatar snatching their first point ever in a World Cup campaign.
The Group B Is Wide Open
With all the 4 teams in Group B playing out a 1-1 draw, the group has been left wide open.
Brazil – Morocco: The Most Anticipated Clash
The most anticipated match of the day was Brazil vs Morocco in New Jersey, East Rutherford, and it lived up to its expectations.
Morocco draws first blood through Saibari
A pacy affair it was as Morocco drew first blood after a brilliant pass from Brahim Diaz to Ismael Saibari, who split the Brazilian defence. Saibari, the PSV Eindhoven star, ensured a fantastic finish to beat Alisson Becker in the 21st minute.
Brazil Equalise As Vinicius Jr Excels
Brazil had to reply as they surged into Morocco, determined to score. Vinicius Jr from the left flank, weaved his magic and struck a telling blow. The angle was acute, but Vini’s right-footer had pace and precision as Bono was beaten all ends up.
A Cagey Fight Ensued, But Bono Stood Firm
Brazil had equalised. The match then became a cagey affair with both teams playing safe to deny the other. Bono, once again, was in splendid form as he kept the Brazilians at bay.

The Atlas Lions Defended Stoically
Brazil did enjoy 54 per cent possession but could not make any major inroads, as the Atlas Lions defended stoically. The match ended very fairly in a draw.
Boston Stadium Played Host to Haiti & Scotland As McGinn Scores
The Boston Stadium in Foxborough held the Haiti vs Scotland Group C encounter. John McGinn, the Aston Villa captain, scored in the 28th minute to give Scotland the lead.
McTominay Almost Scored, but it was not to be.
McTominay had hit the bar earlier, and though Scotland dominated proceedings, they let go of some chances too. Haiti did make a few good moves but failed to break through the tough Scottish defence.
The Scottish Side Claimed Their First Victory in 36 Years
Scotland eventually registered their first win in a World Cup after 36 years and are at the top of the table, above Brazil and Morocco.
Day 3 Belonged To The Goalkeepers
Day 3, in my opinion, belonged to the goalkeepers. Mahmud Abunada, Bono, and Patrick Beach (for Australia) were incredible and contributed significantly to their team’s success.
