Iraq On Verge Of World Cup History As Bolivia Clash Awaits in Mexico

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Iraq and Bolivia are set to face off in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Inter-Confederation Play-off Final at the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, Mexico in the early hours of 1st of April. This is a winner-take-all match: the victor secures a spot in the 2026 World Cup, while the loser’s journey ends here.

The Road To Monterrey, Mexico

Iraq, with a record breaking 20 game struggle to reach this stage has displayed tremendous grit and determination  in their quest to qualify for the World Cup in 40 years. Managed by Graham Arnold, Iraq is a tremendous side and will not be pushovers by any stretch of imagination.

Bolivia finished 7th in the South American qualifiers and thus narrowly missed direct qualification to the world Cup. However, they beat Suriname 2-1 in the semi-final playoffs to secure their right to play Iraq in the playoff final.

Key Players

Aymen Hussain, the prolific goalscorer for Iraq and the young creative midfielder in Ali Jasim will pose  serious threat for Bolivia. For the South Americans Miguel Terceros and their experienced goalkeeper Carlos Lampe will be the star players.

It is going to be a tough contest, but Iraq powered by a wave of emotions and a chance to reach the big stage after 40 years may just have the edge.
