Ishan Kishan, leading East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final against South Zone, scored a brilliant double century on Day 2 of the summit clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The 28-year-old left-handed wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand needed 270 balls to reach the 200-run mark while batting at number five. His innings placed him in the history books as only the third player to score a double century for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
East Zone’s Double Century Club
Before Ishan, Arun Lal scored a couple of double centuries for East Zone, and in the 1995 edition, former wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim also achieved the feat. While Saba remained unbeaten on 200, Arun scored 214 runs against Central Zone in Pune and then smashed 287 runs against West Zone in the semifinal played in Pune from October 25 to 28, 1986. Interestingly, like Ishan, both Arun Lal and Saba Karim were captaining East Zone when they scored their respective double centuries.
Highest Individual Scores for East Zone
Ishan’s unbeaten 203 off 270 balls, featuring 26 fours and two sixes, now stands as the third-highest individual score for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy. Arun Lal holds the top two spots with his 287 against West Zone and 214 against Central Zone. Saba Karim’s 200 not out against West Zone in Nagpur completes the list, followed by his 190 against North Zone in Delhi.

The All-Time Duleep Trophy Records
Ishan Kishan will now look to convert his double century into a triple century. If he manages to achieve the feat in the ongoing match, he will become only the third player to score a triple century in the Duleep Trophy. So far, only two players have reached the 300-run mark in India’s premier domestic zonal tournament. Raman Lamba scored 320 runs for North Zone against West Zone in 1987, and Gagan Khoda remained unbeaten on 300 for Central Zone against South Zone in 2001. Other notable high scores include Surendra Bhave’s 292 for West Zone and Sanjay Manjrekar’s 278 for West Zone.
Kishan’s Test Career and Current Form
Ishan, who played two Tests for India in 2023 against the West Indies, has been in excellent form throughout the tournament. His double century in the final is a testament to his ability and determination as he continues to make a strong case for a return to the national
