What are your top ten favorite movies?
My Top 10 Hollywood Films are as Follows:-
1. Superman-2: Featuring Christopher Reeve. My childhood memory. Watched the film at City Light Theatre in Mumbai.
2. Platoon: Based on the horrors of the Vietnam War. Featuring Charlie Sheen. But William Dafoe was exceptional in the film. A heart-wrenching ending.
3. Mad Max: The first film in the series is my favourite. Mel Gibson was so good.
4. Man Without A Face: Again, a Mel Gibson special. The role of a teacher with a burnt face. A very touching film.
5. Philadelphia: The first film on the social boycott of people infected with AIDS. Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington were tremendous in the film, and Tom Hanks won his first Oscar.
6. JFK: A riveting courtroom drama regarding the assassination of JF Kennedy. Kevin Costner was amazing in the film. A great watch indeed.
7. Terminator 2: Technically, the film was beyond its years. Arnold Schwarzenegger gained immortality with this film. A visual treat and edge-of-the-seat action.
8. Apocalypto: A terrific film directed by Mel Gibson. The action movie is a treatise on the ability of mankind to survive if it wants to. Great visuals and tremendous performances.
9. Rambo: First Blood – This film will always remain as one of the legends in action thrillers. Sylvester Stallone was unbelievably good in the film. No one could have done it better.
10. Gladiator: Russell Crowe very deservedly won the Best Actor Oscar Award for playing Maximus, the General of the Roman Army who is ditched and dispatched for good. He returns to the arena as a Gladiator and has his revenge. What a movie. I have seen it several times over, and it still continues to amaze me. An absolutely gripping entertainer.
It was a tough ask to pick the top 10, as there are several other great films that deserve to be in this list too.
