Brentford has been the story of the English Premier League since the London Club made its debut in the EPL three seasons ago. The 2-0 victory against Arsenal in the very first match of their debut season has held the Bees in good stead, and they haven’t looked back since then.
Brentford has had a long journey, and one man who really turned the tide in the favour of the Bees was Thomas Frank, Brentford’s majestic Manager. He held the position from 2018-2025 and completely transformed the Club. Brentford was a relatively unknown Club internationally, but then the Danish Manager produced great work to first get Brentford to the EPL and then ensured that the Bees sting, endure, and remain worthy of the top league.
Thomas Frank literally built a team of unknown players, no big names, home bred talent, and lots of hard work and focus. Brentford became a force to reckon with. The grit and determination displayed by the team, match after match, made the Bees tricky customers to handle and gave the opposition a good run for their money.
Time, however, does not remain static. Changes are inevitable. Thomas Frank decided to leave Brentford for a struggling and gasping Tottenham Hotspur. The Spurs had had a bad season by all standards as they slipped and slipped in a forgettable appearance.
The departure of Thomas Frank has created a massive vacuum at Brentford, and though Keith Andrews, the set pieces coach, has taken over from Frank, he still has to fill big shoes. It would be Keith Andrews’ debut season too as a full time Manager and an extremely challenging one at that.
Brentford’s success last year was structured around Bryan Mbeumo’s brilliant performance. The Cameroonian scored 20 goals in the EPL last season and was sensational with his striking ability. But Mbeumo has since moved to Manchester United. If that wasn’t enough, Mbeumo’s partner in crime, Yoane Wissa from DR Congo, who scored 19 goals last season, has been pushing to leave Brentford for Newcastle. Though Brentford has rejected the sale for now, it may just be a matter of time before Wissa eventually leaves.
With Brentford’s long serving Manager and their brilliant forwards away from duties for good, the 25/26 season is going to be an extremely challenging one. Clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur would be turning on the heat and mounting a serious challenge for the top half of the EPL this season.
A test of character awaits the Bees.
