FIFA World Cup 2026 To Begin on 11th June
The FIFA World Cup 2026, football’s greatest spectacle to be jointly hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico shall begin from the 11th of June 2026 and culminate with Final on 19th July at the sprawling New Jersey MetLife Stadium.
48 Teams To Battle It Out
For the first time, 48 teams shall compete for the ultimate prize in football and for many in sports as a whole. The larger spread will give an opportunity for more representation from across the world to make the event even more diverse and inclusive.
104 Games To Be Played Out Before The Final
A massive 104 games will be played across 16 centres to decide the finalists, making it one of the biggest organised games in recent times. No wonder teams across continents are fighting tooth and nail to play at the World Cup and represent their people with pride.
In the latest round of qualifications, the list of qualified teams has undergone a few additions as follows.
South America : Brazil and Ecuador joined Argentina among the qualifiers. Brazil sealed their place with a 1-0 win against Paraguay under new coach Carlo Ancelotti in front of a vociferous Sao Paulo crowd. Vinicius Jr netted the winner.
Asia : Australia the Socceroos, Jordan and South Korea joined Iran, Uzbekistan and Japan to book their place for the World Cup. Australia played brilliantly to beat Japan and then got the better of Saudi Arabia in a tense match at Jeddah. A stoppage time penalty led to a 1-1 draw for Oman against Palestine. It was sheer heartbreak for Palestine as they were knocked out of qualifications as Oman were still in the race.
Europe: With 54 teams competing for 16 positions, European qualifications are still on and will take a few months before we have a clearer picture.
Africa : A total of 9 slots for the main tournament and one inter-confeferation play off spot has been reserved for Teams from Africa. No Team has yet qualified for the World Cup.
Oceania: New Zealand has qualified for the only spot for the Oceania Region.
North, Central American and Caribbean Region: There are 6 spots available in this Region, of which Canada, USA, and Mexico have already taken 3, being hosts, while the remaining 3 are up for grabs.
Let alone the World Cup, the qualifiers too have mouth-watering contests lined up in the months to come. With Europe and Africa yet to finalise their teams for the mega event, some interesting times lie ahead in football for sure.
