England Announce Squad
England have announced their playing XI for the first Test against India, beginning tomorrow at Headingley. The much-hyped five-test series will mark the start of the World Test Championship cycle 25-27 for both teams.
A Formidable Opening Pair
The team features the formidable opening pair of the tall Zak Crawley and the stocky Ben Duckett. Both players have been in great form, and Ben Duckett has played well in all formats of the game.
Ollie Pope & Joe Root Add Experience
Ollie Pope comes in at his usual position of No. 3, and though his recent performances have not been that great, he holds on to his position on the back of sheer experience. The record-breaking Joe Root, who has been minting runs off late, strengthens the team at No. 4.
Mercurial Ben Stokes In The Middle
The hugely talented Harry Brook and a future leader in the making, occupies the crucial middle order No. 5 position. The charismatic captain Ben Stokes is slated at No. 6, while Jamie Smith, hailed as a generational talent will adorn the gloves and his batting skills will add more value to the no. 7 position.
Chris Woakes Returns To The Squad
Chris Woakes, a fine swing bowler and a decent bat returns to the England squad at No. 8. Brydon Carse, the young quickie, shall be playing his first test on home soil, with speedster Josh Tongue and the young offie Shoaib Bashir complete the Eleven.
A Tremendous England Team
The team has tremendous batting depth, and though the bowling looks a bit inexperienced, Chris Woakes’ return to the squad will be a big boost for England. The question is how English batters would stand up against Bumrah and a quality Indian bowling attack. We shall soon find out.
England Playing XI : Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes(c), Jamie Smith(wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
