City High On Confidence Going To Arsenal..
Manchester City travelled to London to meet arch rivals Arsenal last night. The defending Champions were high on confidence after getting the better of Chelsea last week and also for qualifying for the play-offs in the UEFA Champions League. However, the confidence was short-lived as the Gunners ran riot at the Emirates Stadium.
…But The Gunners Too Good For City
For Arsenal it was an extremely important fixture. A tough game to get through and ensure that they do not fall too far behind Liverpool, the leaders who had already opened a 9 point lead in the Premier League. The Gunners however showed that they had the gumption to stay close to the leaders and performed brilliantly in unison to outclass City.
Akanji Error A Bad Omen
I had an inkling of a revival when City beat Chelsea, but with inconsistencies having crept in their game, they were looking to be punished by a side playing much better football. An Akanji error cost City the first goal from Odegaard in just the 2nd minute of the game and though Erling Haaland scored from an incisive header in the 55th minute to bring the match to level terms, it was just not enough.
A Mauling Unfolds
Manchester City, just imploded in the next 20 minutes. The persistence from Arsenal paid off as Partey, Lewis-Skelly and Kai Havertz scored within this period of a City implosion to secure the game firmly in their favour. To inflict more pain, 17 year old Nwaneri scored the 5th for the Gunners in stoppage time to complete a near mauling of the now rapidly fading defending champions.
Arsenal Fans Rejoice As City Sink
The Emirates Stadium, packed with fans rejoiced as their team delivered a performance to remember. City on the other hand just caved in without a semblance of a resistance, totally stunned by the home team.
The Gunners Stay 2nd in the EPL Table
Arsenal, with this win stayed in second place on the leaderboard and though Manchester City remain on 4th, a win tonight for Chelsea might just push City out of the top 4.
