South Africa Qualify For WTC Final
When the leader leads from the front the results are telling. South Africa won their last 7 test matches on the trot and 10 of 14 since Temba Bavuma and Shukri Conrad took over as Captain and Coach of the Proteas Team, leading to their qualification for the World Test Championship final against the Defending Champions Australia in June this year. The stats are remarkable for a team which was written off at least in Tests. Temba Bavuma since taking charge of the captaincy has played brilliantly and has still to lose a test as captain. An amazing record indeed.
The Springboks Have Been A Revelation
The rich resources in Bowling, belligerent performances with the bat and the display of a lot of steel from the Springboks in trying conditions have been a revelation.

The Bowling Has Been Top Notch
South Africa, despite injuries to Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje and Gerald Coetzee were fabulous with the ball. Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson and a brilliant Marco Jansen led the Proteas attack with distinction both in South Africa and abroad. The wily Keshav Maharaj proved his mettle with some fine performances particularly in Asian conditions.
Temba & The Batting Exploits
The batting too revelled under Temba Bavuma who has averaged a mighty impressive 58 in the past two years. His leading from the front has had an amazing impact on the other batters in the team. Ryan Rickleton with a century and a double century in his fledgling career, Wiaan Mulder and Kyle Verreynne too have been superb with the bat. The introduction of Tristan Stubbs in the middle order too has been a great addition and Tony De Zorzi’s performance at the top of the order has given immense stability to South Africa’s batting. Marco Jansen too has contributed with the bat whenever required.
Great Camaraderie
Temba Bavuma and Shukri Conrad have been able to develop tremendous camaraderie in the team which has led to great teamwork and team performances. Bavuma has remained humble throughout their campaign which speaks volumes about his character. There was a time when he faced tremendous flak both for his leadership and his own performances, but he has been steadfast with his hardwork and focus and has lead South Africa to the verge of ending a title drought.
No Chokers Anymore
Australia, though, are favourites in the WTC final, South Africa may well spring in a surprise. They may not be the ‘Chokers’ any more.
