The Reds started brilliantly and finished brilliantly. In between they almost lost it. Anfield was saved a rude shock and instead Liverpool moved into second place at the end of Match Day 14 in the now excitingly developing English Premier League.
A Brilliant Alexander Arnold
Trent Alexander Arnold’s free kick in the 20th minute was pure delight. It had power and precision written all over it as the right footer just curled enough to beat the outstretched left arm of Leno ( Fulham’s goal keeper ). However just a few minutes later Fulham scored through Harry Wilson, against the run of play. The Liverpool defence neither attacked the ball nor put any pressure on Wilson, who scored like a walk in the park.
A Mac Allister Special
Liverpool went ahead again with a 30 m Alexis Mac Allister right-footed scorcher. It was a special strike from the Argentinian. The ball kept curling away from Leno, who had no chance on his left. The ball just pierced through the air and entered the goal in the blink of an eye. What a strike it was to take Liverpool ahead in the 38th minute. But again, a loose Liverpool defence saw Tete score from short range in a goal-mouth scramble. Fulham had equalised again just before halftime.
Two Goals in Two Minutes Save the Reds
Liverpool were holding possession and dominating play, but the cagey Liverpool defence slipped yet again to hand over the lead to Fulham in the 80th minute through Cordova-Reid. The tables had turned, as an unbelieving crowd got on tenterhooks. But yet again, the brilliance of Liverpool players saved the day. Endo scored from a thunderous strike in the 87th minute after Salah had tapped in the ball for him. Then again in the 88th minute, a rejuvenated Alexander Arnold scored another brilliant goal to take Liverpool home—another strike, clean as a whistle.
Liverpool, need to Tighten Up
The Reds survived. Their brilliance in the field kept swinging like a pendulum. They were great with their striking abilities but not so with their defence. A crucial 3 points were gained nonetheless. With Alisson Becker not playing, Kelleher got a chance but failed to impress. Liverpool need to tighten up as they take on a struggling Sheffield United on a Thursday.
