How It Unfolded
Teenager Trey Nyoni gave Liverpool the lead with an excellent volley, and at 19 became the club’s youngest player to score a first Champions League goal. That was in the 25th minute. Mason Greenwood levelled for the hosts in the 29th, and it stayed 1-1 for most of the match.
Alexander Isak put Liverpool back in front in the 69th minute, and the visitors looked on course for a fourth straight win. Fenerbahce had other ideas. Brown equalised in the 73rd, and Vedat Muriqi headed in the winner in the 79th.

Where It Went Wrong For Liverpool
Andoni Iraola came to Istanbul hoping to fix Liverpool’s attacking problems, but holes opened up at the back, and Fenerbahce took advantage of a late defensive collapse. Liverpool conceded twice in six minutes after leading, and they never regained control.
What It Means
Fenerbahce had only two points from their first three games, so this win breathes new life into their campaign. Liverpool drop to fifth in the league-phase table on nine points.
