Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already one of the most talked-about young cricketers in the world, and he is not yet 16. A record-setting IPL career and an early India call-up give him a head start. Whether he becomes one of India’s biggest stars will depend on how he handles the next few years. Here is the case.

A Debut Like No Other

Sooryavanshi became the youngest IPL debutant in April 2025 at 14 years and 23 days for the Rajasthan Royals. A few days later he scored a 35-ball century, which made him the youngest centurion in IPL history at 14 years and 32 days.

The 2026 Breakthrough

In early 2026 he led India at the Under-19 World Cup and scored 175 off 80 balls in the final against England, finishing as Player of the Tournament with 439 runs. He then had a standout IPL 2026, with reports crediting him with the Orange Cap and a tournament-record 72 sixes. TIME included him on its 2026 TIME100 Next list.

India Debut

On July 4, 2026, Sooryavanshi made his T20I debut against England at Old Trafford at 15 years and 99 days, making him India’s youngest international debutant and surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. He was also part of India’s gold-medal side at the Asian Games.

The Challenges

Early international returns have been mixed: he scored 4 off 8 balls in one recent match and 45 off 19 in another against New Zealand, a reminder that consistency is the test for any young batter. Fitness, expectations and the demands of red-ball cricket will matter as well. Our explainer on the Ranji Trophy shows the long-form path he is expected to follow.

The Verdict

Few players have started this way, and the early evidence points to a rare talent. “Biggest star” is a future judgment, but if the results continue, Sooryavanshi has the platform to earn it.
