A Heavy Price Paid
PSG beat Barcelona 4-2 on Tuesday but paid a heavy price. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is out for the rest of the season.
What Happened
Kvaratskhelia landed awkwardly after sprinting back to make a tackle on Xavi Espart early in the second half and looked in severe pain as he clutched his knee. It was a collision in the 59th minute, and he needed help to leave the pitch. The challenge was fair, and he could barely put weight on the leg.

The Diagnosis
PSG confirmed on Wednesday that he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will undergo surgery in the coming days. Typical recovery from ACL reconstruction is at least nine months, effectively ruling the 25-year-old out for the rest of 2026-27.
He’s not the only casualty. Dembélé and Marquinhos both tore thigh muscles and will miss weeks. Dembélé went off after just 20 minutes, and Marquinhos limped off at the same time as Kvaratskhelia.
Kvaratskhelia’s Reaction
The winger posted a message on Instagram. He asked “why me?” and said he had never held anything back. He added that he was ready to spend the coming months working, in pain and in tears.
Why It Hurts
He scored 20 goals and set up 12 last season, and he’s a Ballon d’Or contender. For me, Kvaratskhelia was a treat to watch from the left flank. His slick movement, tremendous pace, and an incredible ability to score made him one of my favourite players.
Luis Enrique gave a sombre assessment after the match. He said the three injuries were the worst part of the night and that they’d wait for tests. Fabián Ruiz said the squad had feared exactly this after the manager rested some players earlier.
The timing is poor too. With Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia both missing, PSG’s attack has lost two of its main threats while they chase the Champions League top spot.

The Contract Question
His deal runs to 2029, but PSG had already decided to extend it, and RMC report that talks have opened on a new three-year deal running to 2032. The injury hasn’t changed the club’s stance.
The Bottom Line
PSG won the match but lost a key player. Their depth will be tested over the coming weeks, and Kvaratskhelia faces a long road back.
