Manager Mikel Arteta

A New Deal for the Arsenal Manager

Arsenal has signed manager Mikel Arteta to a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030. The deal was announced on October 7, 2026. Arteta’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season. BBC Sport had reported earlier in the month that an agreement on an improved deal had been reached. This new contract means Arteta could end up spending a decade in charge of the Gunners. He first arrived at the club in December 2019.

Why Arsenal Wanted to Keep Him

Arsenal wanted to keep Arteta because of the success he has brought to the club. He has won the Premier League and the FA Cup. Last season, he led Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 20 years. He also came very close to winning the Champions League. Arsenal lost the final against Paris Saint-Germain in May. It was a painful defeat, but it has also motivated Arteta and the club to aim for more.

A Competitive Advantage

Arsenal’s chief executive, Richard Garlick, believes keeping Arteta gives the club a competitive edge. He pointed out that Arteta is the only manager currently working in the Premier League who has won the title. All the other traditional top-six clubs have gone through managerial changes.

Arsenal now has a manager who has been with the club for a long time and has been allowed to build and develop a team. Garlick said the excitement now is about the platform they have and building from there. He added that Arsenal cannot stand still. They want to dominate football for the next number of years. He said this is the beginning, not the end of their journey.

Arteta’s Own Words

Mikel Arteta said he is proud to continue his journey with Arsenal. He called the club unique and said it has a special character. He said the journey together will continue, and he feels a great sense of privilege. He added that they have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime. What is exciting to him is that this is only the beginning of what they can achieve together.

Building a Dynasty

Arteta wants to build a dynasty at Arsenal. Winning the Premier League last season was seen as just the start. The club’s co-chairmen, Stan and Josh Kroenke, said they share a special bond with Arteta. They said they are proud of everything achieved since he returned to the club in 2019. They added that he has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart. He knows what the club means to everyone connected to it. They said he is committed to building on everything they have achieved together.

Salary and Benchmarks

The new contract includes an increase from Arteta’s current salary of £10 million per year plus an additional £5 million in bonuses. Reports say Arteta benchmarked his worth against Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone and former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. Both of those managers are reportedly paid over £20 million per year. The new deal reflects Arteta’s status as one of the top managers in the game.

Why This Matters for Arsenal

Keeping Arteta provides stability. After Guardiola left Manchester City at the end of last season, Arteta became the longest-serving manager in the English top flight. Arsenal believes that continuity will help them compete at the highest level. The club wants to build on their recent success and challenge for more trophies. The question now is whether more history can be made. Mikel Arteta is determined to find out.
