Sadio Mane is investing around $20 million in SM10 Agro, a major mango and agro-industrial project in his hometown of Bambali designed to create jobs and boost local agriculture.
Sadio Mane left Bambali as a young footballer with little more than a dream of making it to the biggest stages in the game. More than a decade later, he is returning to the village with something much bigger than a donation. Mane is putting a reported 11.7 billion CFA francs, around $20 million, into a project designed to create jobs, process local produce, and build a new source of income for his community.
The Senegal star officially launched SM10 Agro in Bambali on September 19, laying the foundation stone for an agro-industrial project covering around 500 hectares. The plan centres on mango production and processing, with the aim of turning a crop that is often lost or sold without much added value into a local industry.

What Is Sadio Mane Building In Bambali?
At the heart of the project is a large agricultural operation that will combine farming with processing. Plans call for around 78,000 mango trees across the 500 hectare site, alongside an industrial area where locally grown mangoes can be sorted and processed rather than simply leaving the region as fresh fruit.
The project is expected to include facilities producing mango pulp, dried mango, and mango butter, with annual processing capacity estimated at around 8,500 tonnes in the initial plans. It will also include agricultural training and research facilities, meaning the project is intended to create skills as well as jobs. Construction is expected to take about 18 months, with the first harvest from the new plantation projected in roughly three years. The scale matters because this is not simply a footballer putting his name on a business. Mane is attempting to create an operation that connects farmers, processing, training, and employment in the same place.
Why Is Mango Production So Important To Sadio Mane?
The idea comes from a problem Mane has seen in his home region. According to figures he presented while unveiling the project, between 30% and 40% of mango production in the Sédhiou region can be lost because of inadequate storage and processing facilities. A large harvest therefore does not automatically translate into higher income for farmers.
SM10 Agro is intended to address that gap by allowing more of the crop to be processed locally. Instead of relying only on the sale of fresh mangoes, the project can turn the fruit into products such as pulp, dried mango, and mango butter, potentially creating more value within the region. That is what makes Mane’s latest investment different from many of his earlier community projects. A school or hospital provides an immediate service. An industrial project has the potential to keep generating economic activity year after year.

How Has Sadio Mane Already Helped His Community?
Sadio Mane has been putting money into Bambali for years. He has previously funded a school, hospital, mosque, petrol station and other local infrastructure, while also supporting education and community initiatives. Those projects helped address everyday needs in the village where he grew up. SM10 Agro takes that commitment into a different area.
The project is expected to create more than 1,000 direct jobs when it starts operating, with an eventual target of around 2,500 jobs as the wider development grows. It is also intended to create opportunities for young people and women through employment and agricultural training. For Mane, that long-term impact appears to be the point. He has described Bambali as the place where his dreams began and said he wants the project to create opportunities that allow people to build their futures closer to home.
The football career will eventually end, but SM10 Agro is being designed to continue beyond the years Mane spends on the pitch. From scoring goals in Europe to investing millions in a mango industry in his hometown, his latest move shows that giving back can take many forms. Mane left Bambali chasing a football dream.
