Azerbaijan has introduced a temporary visa-on-arrival facility for eligible foreign visitors attending the 2026 Baku Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Formula 1 fans heading to Baku for this year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix have been given a simpler way to enter the country. Azerbaijan has introduced temporary visa on arrival arrangements for foreign visitors and stateless persons travelling to the capital for the 2026 Formula 1 race.
The measure is already in effect and will remain available until September 30, covering the Grand Prix weekend later this month. Under the new rules, eligible visitors can obtain their visa at Azerbaijan’s international airports instead of completing the regular visa process before travelling.

Who Can Use the Simplified Visa Process?
The arrangement is specifically linked to the 2026 Formula 1 event in Baku. Visitors need to present one of the documents accepted by the Azerbaijani authorities when they arrive in the country. A valid Formula 1 ticket is enough to qualify, including an electronic ticket or a document confirming that the ticket has been purchased. Accredited Formula 1 and FIA personnel can also use the facility, as can people accredited by the Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
This could be particularly useful for international fans who have already bought tickets but have not yet arranged their travel documents. Instead of applying through the standard process beforehand, they can use the temporary visa on arrival facility at an international airport in Azerbaijan.

When Is The Visa On Arrival Facility Available?
The simplified procedure began on August 25 and will remain available through September 30, 2026. That gives fans travelling for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix a window that extends beyond the actual race weekend. The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled to take place in Baku on September 26, making the new arrangement particularly relevant for visitors planning to arrive in the days immediately before the race. The temporary rules were introduced through a presidential order on August 25.
The Azerbaijani government has also instructed its Foreign Ministry and migration authorities to inform relevant international organisations, foreign authorities, and airlines about the simplified procedure.
What Does This Mean For International F1 Fans?
For fans who already hold a race ticket, the biggest change is the added flexibility. They now have the option of obtaining their visa after arriving at an international airport, provided they meet the conditions of the temporary arrangement. The change does not remove Azerbaijan’s other visa requirements for travellers who are not covered by the Formula 1 arrangement. Visitors can still use the ASAN Visa electronic system where they are eligible, while those outside the relevant categories must follow the applicable entry procedure.
With the Azerbaijan Grand Prix approaching, the simplified rules could make a last-minute trip to Baku considerably easier for eligible fans. For one of Formula 1’s most distinctive street races, supporters now have an additional travel option during the final weeks before the cars take to the circuit.
