Paris Saint-Germain will face Aston Villa in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, August 12, at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria – marking the first time a major European club final takes place in the city.
The one-off final played out between UEFA Champions League Title holders and Europa League Winners, will witness PSG go all out in defence of their title, which they won last year, beating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties.
Aston Villa, led by their Manager Unai Emery, are certain to give PSG a fight to the finish. Emery, with a terrific record in European Tournaments ( having won 4 Europa Titles already), will look to add another Super Cup, having won their first in 1982.
For Aston Villa, new signing Johan Manzambi will miss the final in Salzburg due to a knee injury sustained during his international campaign, while captain John McGinn is a major doubt after landing awkwardly on his knee during a pre-season friendly in Thailand. However, much of Unai Emery’s core squad benefited from a full pre-season schedule, giving Villa a slight physical edge in match sharpness over PSG.
PSG, on the other hand, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, coming off a full pre-season, is fit and expected to spearhead PSG’s frontline, and though the big stars in Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Fabián Ruiz, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, and Nuno Mendes have returned to training, they might be used sparingly and with caution in the one-off Final. It will be Luis Enrique’s first test of the season.
It is going to be an interesting contest, and though PSG are the favourites, the Villans might just have the edge.
