Preview: Mexico vs England – A Game For The Ages

England vs Mexico
The English Have Waited For 66 Years

England have waited long. A total of 60 years have elapsed since Bobby  Charlton led England to the World Cup Title in 1966. England had got the better of West Germany in a pulsating 4-2 win at the iconic Wembley Stadium.

England Have Yet To Deliver & Have Run Into Mexico

The Three Lions have promised but are yet to deliver, and even though they have a great team this time too, they have run into co-hosts Mexico.

El Tri Are Playing Like A Dream

El Tri are playing like a dream. Having won all four games without conceding a single goal, the belligerent Mexicans under Javier Aguirre are looking determined to take on the World.

The Estadio Azteca Will Test English Lungs

The Mexico City stadium, the historic Estadio Azteca, built at an altitude of 2242 metres above sea level, will test the English lungs. At this venue, Mexico has never lost a World Cup match ( 8 wins and 2 draws), which tilts the scale in Mexico’s favour.

The Hand of God May Haunt The English

England do not have good memories of the stadium either, having lost to Argentina in the 1986 quarter-final with the infamous Diego Maradona’s ‘ Hand of God ‘ controversy, resulting in a 1-2 loss to the eventual Champions.

Julian Quinones Has Been Sensational For Mexico

Julian Quinones, the inspired selection from Javier Aguirre, has been sensational. With three goals to his credit, he, along with Jimenez, has formed an incredible pair up front. England will be wary of that. Thomas Tuchel, a superb tactician himself, must have devised a strategy to rein in the two Mexicans.

Harry Kane Is The Key For England

England, on the other hand, were stretched to the limit by DR Congo in the Rd of 32. It was sheer brilliance from Harry Kane ( who has scored 5 goals already in the tournament so far) which got the Three Lions home. Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice were good too, but they need to score.

The Odds Appear In Favour of Mexico

Mexico have yet to concede a single goal, which will be a tremendous challenge for the English. The odds appear to be in Mexico’s favour, but England have outstanding individual talent to counter Mexico’s gritty overall game.

England Need To Play Out of Their Skin

England will have to play out of their skin to get past this one for sure. The match starts tomorrow at 5.30 am IST.
