It was a stellar performance from the Pharaohs as they got past New Zealand in style at BC Place in Vancouver, to go to the top of Group G.

New Zealand Surprise Egypt With A Clean Header

New Zealand, on a high after drawing with a much stronger Iran in their first match, took the lead in the 15th minute through an exceptional header from the 22-year-old central defender Finn Surman. The Black Caps had surprised Egypt and enjoyed the lead till halftime.

Egypt Equalise In the Second Half Through Ziko

The second half it was that changed the complexion of the game. Egypt went all out to score and finally got the equaliser with a powerful header from Mostafa Ziko, who made no mistake with a perfect Mohamad Hany cross, in the 58th minute.

Sublime Salah Helps Egypt Take Lead

Mo Salah, nine minutes later, slipped in his trademark left-footer ever so perfectly to find the net. It was a terrific finish from the Egyptian great, as Egypt took control of the game.

Trezeguet Seals It For The Pharaohs…

Trezeguet, coming off the bench, sealed the match with an outstanding low header from a perfect Mo Salah assist in the 82nd minute.

… To Take Top Spot in Group G

The Pharaohs then held on bravely to win the match and move to the top of Group G.

Iran & Belgium Play Out A Tight Goalless Draw

In the other contest between Belgium and Iran, the two sides played out a goalless draw in a tough, gritty battle. The Belgians were undone by an impregnable Iranian defence and had to settle for a draw.
