FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the Egyptian national team’s run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, describing the Pharaohs’ campaign as “exceptional by every measure”.
Taking to social media, Infantino highlighted Egypt’s milestone run during the tournament, which marked multiple historic firsts for the nation:
First Knockout Qualification: Egypt advanced past the World Cup group stage for the first time in history.
Knockout Stage Victory: The Pharaohs earned their first-ever World Cup knockout win by defeating Australia on penalties in the Round of 32.
Round of 16 Exit: Egypt’s campaign ended in a hard-fought 3–2 loss against Argentina in the Round of 16.
Infantino praised the team for bringing “joy and delight” to their supporters and commended the Egyptian fans for creating an unforgettable, vibrant atmosphere in every host city. He concluded by noting that FIFA eagerly looks forward to seeing Egypt return to the global stage in future tournaments.
