No Room For Real Madrid

Spain’s 26-man World Cup roster as such had no great surprises, but there was one which caught a bit of attention. There were no players from Real Madrid selected by de la Fuente to represent Spain in the mega event.

La Liga Champions Barcelona have 8

Barcelona received the highest representation of 8 players in the squad, while players from Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Arsenal, PSG, Real Sociedad, Osasuna, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayer Leverkusen, Celta Vigo, Chelsea, Manchester City and Crystal Palace completed the squad.

A Promising Roaster

Luis de la Fuente’s roaster looks promising, and the Euro 2024 Champions certainly are one of the favourites to win the Crown and will be gunning to erase the disappointment of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

An Enterprising Defence

With David Raya in goal, Spain’s defence is not only strong but enterprising too. Marc Cucurella, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia are as good as gold, and coupled with the experience of Aymeric Laporte, the back line will be tough to beat.

A Sublime Midfield

The Midfield is not far behind either, with Pedri one of the best in the world at the centre of it, flanked by Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Gavi, Merino and Zubimendi. No wonder it is an accomplished midfield with a great mix of experience and youth.

Some Brilliant Forwards

The forward line, however, is nothing short of stellar. Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and of course the mercurial Lamine Yamal, can dismantle any defence in the world.

De la Fuente has a bunch of players who can light up the World Cup with their skill and class. They just need to gel together.

The Team :

Goalkeepers: Unai Simon, David Raya, Joan Garcia.

Defenders : Marc Cucurella, Pau Cubarsi, Aymeric Laporte, Alejandro Grimaldo, Pedro Porro, Eric Garcia, Marcos Llorente, Marc Pubill.

Midfielders: Gavi, Rodri, Pedri, Martin Zubimendi, Fabian Ruiz, Alex Baena, Mikel Merino.

Forwards: Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, Mikel Oyarzabal, Yeremy Pino, Borja Iglesias, Victor Munoz.

A Tough Group to Handle

Spain are placed in Group H and will play their first game against debutants Cape Verde on June 15, before playing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in a tough group.

La Roja is going to paint the World Cup Red.
