England Squad Announced, Harry Kane to Lead
England Squad for the FIFA World Cup, led by Harry Kane, was announced on Friday by Manager Thomas Tuchel, as England begin preparations to challenge the world and defy 60 trophy-less years since Bobby Charlton led England to victory in 1966.
Tuchel, the tough German, Takes A Few Tough Calls
Thomas Tuchel, the tough German, took a dispassionate view, and the omissions he made became talking points over the team itself. No wonder some hard calls have been taken, which have made this team a truly interesting one.
Palmer, Foden, Maguire Shown The Door
A couple of England’s Next Gen players and experienced stalwarts could not find a place in the squad, which raised a lot of eyebrows. Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold were left out by Tuchel, while Harry Maguire, one of England’s finest defenders, did not find favour with Tuchel either.
Lack of Playing Time and Fitness Has Resulted in Omissions
Having a closer look, however, Cole Palmer had struggled this season with injuries and form and by all standards, he was a shadow of himself this year as compared to his brilliant performances all these years for Chelsea. Phil Foden, too, was not an automatic choice for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and though Pep gave Foden a few chances here and there, his time on the pitch was not enough to impress Tuchel.
England’s Forwards Are One To Beat
The German instead has gone with Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins, Eze, Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford ( to my surprise) and Ivan Toney, who has been rewarded for his exploits in the Saudi League. Tuchel has gone with the players who are fit and in prime form.
Maguire Misses Out, But English Defence Is Still A Tough Nut
Harry Maguire’s omission in defence was more surprising to me, considering his vast experience and his ability in the air, both in defence and attack. He has one of the best headers in the game. Tuchel instead has gone with Dan Burn, the tall Magpie, who is also a tough defender and can score as well. Not a bad choice, though. The impressive Nico O’Reilly finds a place alongside Reece James and John Stones.
A Supreme Midfield
The Midfield is supremely and will be taken care of by Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Morgan Rogers and a surprise inclusion in Jordan Henderson.
A Strong Balanced Outfit
In my opinion, barring Harry Maguire and, to an extent, Cole Palmer, the team is a pretty good one and can break the 60-year-old impasse.
Can Harry Kane Do A Bobby Charlton?
Can Harry Kane make it a year to remember for the English? Can he do a Bobby Charlton?.

England are placed in a tough Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama. Although England remain favourites to come through, the composition of the group is much trickier.
