Arsenal Are EPL Champions After 22 Years
After an agonising wait of 22 years, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been crowned English Premier League Champions, after Manchester City could earn only a draw against Bournemouth at the Vitaliy Stadium last night.
The Focus Shifts To The Champions League Final
Arsenal, with an unassailable lead of 4 points with one match to go, were assured winners as they play their last match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. The Gunners will now focus on the Champions League Final against defending Champions PSG, at Budapest on the 30th of May.
Manchester City Let It Slip
Manchester City had their chances, but the draw against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium pushed them back. It was not in their hands then. They needed help from West Ham and Burnley to beat Arsenal, but the Gunners literally survived.
It Was Going To Be Tough At Bournemouth
Pep Guardiola knew very well that the trip to Bournemouth was not going to be an easy one. The Vitaliy Stadium is akin to a burial ground for visitors. The Cherries are virtually invincible at home, and last night, too, they almost pulled off a win against City.
Kroupi Scored For Cherries, Haaland Equalised For City
The very impressive 19-year-old, Frenchman EJ Kroupi got the Cherries ahead in the 38th minute, but Manchester City equalised in stoppage time through Erling Haaland to force a draw and deny Bournemouth a deserving win.
Pep Guardiola was swift with changes, but Bournemouth Held On
A draw was just not enough, City had to win to stay in contention for the crown, but beating Bournemouth at the Vitaliy was a big ask. City gave it everything, with Pep Guardiola making the changes swiftly. He brought in Rayan Cherki, Savio and Phil Foden in the 55th minute to get an equaliser and then press for a win, but the Cherries didn’t budge and fought hard to counter the City threat. Marmoush was sent in the 75th minute too, but he could not change the course of the game either.
With Two Trophies, A Great Season For City Too
Pep Guardiola, who might well be calling quits at the end of the season, looked a bit upset at the result. However, still, with two trophies to boot this year, the Spaniard has had an exceptional tenure with City, probably the finest in the history of the club.
Arsenal Survived The Challenges, Deserved The Crown
Arsenal deserved to win. They played the important games better. Bukayo Saka, coming back from injury, bolstered Arsenal at a point when the Gunners were looking jittery, and City had found their mojo. The Championship race could have gone either way, but City just slipped ever so slightly against Everton, which gave Arsenal some breathing space and eventually they held their own to win the Championship.
Kudos to Mikel Arteta
The Gunners stuck with Mikel Arteta and have reaped rewards for their patience and consistency.
Congratulations Arsenal!!!
