Carlo Ancelotti, Manager of Brazil’s National Football Team, announced a 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup, to be jointly held by Canada, Mexico and the United States from the 11th of June 2026.
Ancelotti made the announcement from the Museum of Tomorrow, a famous tourist site in Rio de Janeiro. There were no surprises except the inclusion of Neymar, who would be featuring in his 4th World Cup. Neymar desperately wanted to be a part of the team, and Ancelotti eventually gave in to popular demand. Neymar had been struggling with his fitness and hence it was more of an emotional selection for the crazy football fans of Brazil.
The squad, however, is rich in quality and experience with some splendid players across the board.
Alisson Becker will don the gloves for Brazil. The Liverpool great has had a long break because of injury, but will be fit to take his place in front of goal.
The defence is strong with the world’s most successful centre back at the moment, in Marquinhos in the team. The PSG captain has been on a scorching run of success with the Parisians, and would be featuring in the Champions League final against Arsenal for the second successive year, along with retaining the French Ligue 1. Marquinhos will be partnered with Gabriel Magalhaes, Ibanez and Douglas Santos.
The midfield is no slouch either, spearheaded by Bruno Guimaraes and the in-form and experienced Casemiro, who just left Manchester United. Lucas Paqueta will also add depth to the midfield.
The Forward line is truly ferocious, with some of the best in business collected by Ancelotti. Vinicius Jr on the left flank, Raphina on the right, Endrick and Martinelli in the centre would be a dream formation for Brazil and one which will set opposition defences scampering for cover.
It is a terrific team in my opinion. The only question is whether they can come together in sync with Ancelotti’s plans. Brazil kick off their Group C campaign against Morocco on the 13th of June in New Jersey, followed by Haiti in Philadelphia on the 19th and will complete Group engagements against Scotland on 24th June in Miami.
The Team
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Ederson, Weverton
Defenders : Alex Sandro, Bremer, Danilo, Douglas Santos, Gabriel Magalhães, Ibáñez, Leo Pereira, Marquinhos, Wesley.
Midfielders: Bruno Guimaraes, Casemiro, Danilo Santos, Fabinho, Lucas Paqueta.
Forwards : Endrick, Gabriel Martinelli, Igor Thiago, Luiz Henrique, Matheus Cunha, Neymar Jr, Raphina, Rayan, Vinicius Jr.
The Selecao, with this team have a big role to play in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The 5-time Champions ( 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002 ) are without the Cup for 24 years and would be desperate to make it count this time.
